BOLD / BID in Shimokitazawa

About 20 min from my house. Could not not go. I was really curious about the JUDGE karaoke band. I haven’t heard many good things about them so far so I was eager to check it out by myself.
I got to the venue at around 7:30 after work. Hooked up with the Swedenians. I was actually quite pissed off that I missed their shows yesterday and the day before. Abhinanda was one of my favourite bands from mid 90s. Jose is an ill geezer as are the rest of those chaps.

Abhinanda in a Cafe ~

After a nice chat, back to the venue.
My bros from FC FIVE ~ I enjoyed their set a lot more than I did BOLD for some reason. Weird.

After that BRINGIN’ IT DOWN.
John is not Mike so it didn’t sound anything remotely close to JUDGE but I had such low expectations of this experiment (from reading LWB reviews mostly where, aside from 2 or 3 Euros, no one really said anything positive about it) that I actually enjoyed it. John looked like he was into it and having a good time. The rest of the guys, too. Nevermind the gig, the best part for me was to listen to John and Gavin telling me a whole bunch of awesome stories like Gavin auditioning for The Misfits (dude dyed his hair black just for that), Smalley wanting to fight Porcell at the St. Mark’s, lots and lots of record collecting talk etc…

BOLD
It’s a shame Capone couldn’t make it. With just Matt, watching Bold was almost like watching BID. Kind of like another cover band. Nevertheless, it was a fun show except that I couldn’t stop thinking that Matt now looks so much like Tommy Lee Jones. Seriously.

To end this, the lad who was doing the BOLD/BID merch table, I think his name was Brian(?) (what up Brian!). I talked to him for a brief moment, very nice chap. Awesome Where The Wild Things Are tats.
